Yes, it is necessary to acclimate for 5 to 7 days in the room where the flooring is to be installed. Lay the flooring flat on the floor with the boxes open.
Do I need Humidifier or Dehumidifier?
If you are in an area with high humidity, you will need to control the ambient with a Humidifier or Dehumidifier.
Does Moisture affect hardwood floors?
Moisture can lead to many changes in your floor, cupping, buckling or cracking. We recommend not to use water to clean your floors.
How should I clean hardwood floors?
There are many solvent base cleaning products for finished hardwood flooring, these will evaporate prior to the wood absorbing any moisture.
Is wax an option to maintain my wood floor?
Wax is not recommended because it will leave your floor with a cloudy look rather than a clear look. Avoid wax based products.
How often do I maintain my wood floor?
It is recommended not to let dirt or sand accumulate because this will scratch your flooring. You should vacuum or sweep regularly, making sure you don’t scratch your floors.
What is the ideal moisture content for a wood floor?
The ideal moister content is between 6 - 9 percent. We achieve it through kiln drying. Wood floors expand and contract with fluctuations in temperature and humidity. If you maintain the temperature and humidity between 6 - 9 you will reduce the expansion and contraction of your floors.
Can you install wood floors in a basement?
You can install Laminate or Engineered wood floors because they are more resistant to humidity, but we do not recommend to install a solid wood floor in a below grade area.
Is a moisture barrier needed in a above grade area?
Yes, a 15-pound felt paper laid between the wood floor and the subfloor is recommended to prevent moisture getting to the floor.
Any potential moisture problems I should look out for?
When water is trapped between the wood floor and the subfloor cupping or crowning can occur. The floor needs to dry evenly to prevent damage.
How can I prevent differences in tone in my wood floor due to an area rug?
Most wood floor will change its tone when exposed to light. The best way to keep this from happening is to move furniture and area rugs every so often, any difference in tone will eventually even out.
What extra percentage should I get of wood floor to allow for waste?
